This photograph of the week will close out our year in photos together. This was taken in July on a stormy night, much like tonight will be. The way I framed this photograph has us as a relatively small piece of the photo in the lowest third with the sky above Portsmouth. I like this photo because it reminds me how small we really are. When there’s a problem in our lives or a hurdle we don’t think we can jump over, remember the possibilities and how much else is out there for the taking. If there’s something you want in 2012, take it.

I’d also like to thank anyone and everyone who stuck with my blog for the entire year from it’s beginning when it was a daily blog, to how it finished as a weekly blog. I always appreciate your support and kind remarks about my work. Without “fans” of my work, it just wouldn’t be the same.

I took this photograph on Sunday morning at a wreath laying ceremony in Portsmouth. I was walking around looking for interesting shots and angles and I caught this and decided to take a picture of it. You have the wreath on the right side of the frame and then illuminated and in sharp focus is the plaque on the grave marker. This is probably my favorite shot from that morning!

I took this photograph at a portrait party that I hosted last weekend. The theme was holidays. Lots of decorations, lights, packages, and other props were used. The subject is Jacob. Some of you may remember his newborn photographs that I took just about a year ago. It’s amazing how time flies. His pose, the reflections, the props, and his face were all perfect for this shot. It really shows curiosity and it blends well with the holiday theme.

This weeks photograph of the week brings us to a freakishly warm day in November in New Castle, New Hampshire. This marks probably my last senior portrait of the year and it most certainly was my best. These photographs will go back to Idaho with Jessica and one of the many photographs I sent her will wind up as her senior portrait in Idaho where she goes to school. This weeks photograph brings us to a Portsmouth High School football playoff game. Portsmouth won the game and is set to take on Bedford on Saturday. This photograph features some nice intensity, I always try to capture shots like these especially in a sport as hard nosed as football. The subject of this photograph went on to score two more touchdowns after this photograph was taken bringing his single game total to 4. It was an astounding performance and I think this photograph captured the intensity that he possessed during the game.

I took this photograph at the last UNH game I attended about a week ago. I chose this because it’s a good example of how processing can completely change how a photograph is perceived and how it feels to look at. This photograph has an almost smoothed over sort of movie style look to it. It’s a fairly ordinary photograph that I turned into something unique.

Week 43 brings us to the top of the Hanover Street parking garage in downtown Portsmouth. I had no power due to the freak snow storm that we just had and was asked by the subject to think of somewhere covered that might be able to work for a quick portrait shoot. I thought, parking garage. An odd spot for a senior portrait shoot certainly, but it’s something other than the cookie cutter senior portrait locations we’re all so used to seeing. I knew it had foliage around it as well as the famous church steeple. I decided to work a real Portsmouth feel into these portraits. The snow along the ledge will serve as a constant reminder of the earliest snow this city has ever seen.
